Santa Lucia and batik birds

Today I was able to learn how to make birds and elephants out of batik fabric and towels. Why would you want to do that, you might ask. Well, here it's a tradition for the grooms to give their brides a bunch of baskets with presents, nicely arranged with origami made from the clothes or towels and so forth that they receive as gifts. My language helper Ibu L has the skills, so we decided to take advantage of that and learn how to make some gifts, all in the local language of course, just to make it a bit harder ;)

 And then since it's Lucia dagen I just had to make lussekatter :) They were enjoyed with Esther and the kids, big cups of hot chocolate and julekalenderen episode 13!
