End of ramadan

Today the long fasting period (Ramadan) ended as the sun went down at around 5-5.30 this evening. Me and my room mates were invited to our house helper's house for food and to watch a big parade celebrating breaking the fast in the evening. It was really cool to see where she lives and meet her family!
The parade consisted of different floats, kids dressed up, torches and lights (it was pitch black dark outside!) and lots of drums and singing. There was even a random guy dressed up as Sponge Bob ;) They would sing some pretty similar songs, so we had quite a laugh when a car suddenly drove up blasting "who let the dogs out..."!
The singing from the mosques has being going on since about 6. Its really loud, they've got some huge speakers! Sometimes little kids get to sing as well. There are a bunch of mosques around here, so you can hear the loudspeakers from several of them at the same time. Now its 10.30 and they are still going strong!

Some pictures from a walk in my neighborhood today with my roommates

At the parade. It was really dark, so the pictures aren't too good, but it'll give you an idea of the whole thing
