Today I went with my room mate to the marked in town. This is where you can buy everything fresh, veggies, fruit, meat, fish, live chickens and birds, flowers and so on. It was funny to see some folks walk around with about 8-10 live chickens, some in a bag on their back, and others hanging from random pockets on their clothing, and others still carried upside down by their feet! My room mates have some regular ladies that they go to, one for veggies, one for fruit and one for chicken. They will always just give them a fair price, without having to haggle (which is especially nice when you don't really know what stuff is supposed to cost and what the numbers are called in the local language!).
Later in the afternoon I tried making cinnamon rolls for the first time here, and they turned out quite yummy :) The most challenging part about baking here is to try and keep all the ants out of your dough! Those things smell sugar 5 miles away! (I think we went wrong trying to train dogs to find missing people or hidden drugs, ants would do the job way quicker and with more precision!). However, tonight I've learned an awesome way to keep critters off your plate. You use this special kind of chalk and draw a line around your plate, and apparently the ants won't cross the line. I'm wondering if there is a scorpion and spider repellant chalk to be had??

The vegetable lady
She'll filet the chicken for you right there
Grating coconut
My view from the porch. There's a little shop right a cross the street
